Dr. Mark Jobe
Dr. Mark Jobe has served as Moody Bible Institute’s 10th president since 2019. He and his wife, Dee, have been married for 36 years and have three adult children, Marissa, Josiah, and Grant, and two grandchildren. The Jobes reside in the Chicago area and are active members of New Life Community Church, a nondenominational, multisite church where Dr. Jobe has served as senior pastor since 1986. Dr. Jobe and his son Josiah are graduates of Moody Bible Institute. Dee also received training at Moody.
The son of missionaries, Dr. Jobe grew up in a small rural village in Spain. At age 17, Dr. Jobe left his village of 200 people to attend Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. As a student living on campus, he built a solid foundation in Bible and theology balanced with practical ministry experience.
“That’s why I think Moody has produced so many missionaries and pastors,” Dr. Jobe says. “Moody is filled with people who want to make a difference for Christ and who keep evangelism at the forefront.”
After graduating in 1984, he completed his degree from Columbia International University. In 1986, at age 21, he found himself pastoring a small congregation in Chicago. Later that same year, he would marry his wife, Dee Marquez. She served alongside him from the beginning.
For the past 37 years, Dr. Jobe has served as the lead and founding pastor of New Life Community Church in Chicago. The church has grown from a handful of members to 7,000 people meeting at 27 locations throughout the Chicagoland area and in eight cities internationally. He is also the founder of New Life Centers, an organization focused on helping youth in underserved areas of Chicago.
Dr. Jobe holds a diploma in Communications from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago (1984), a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies from Columbia International University (1986), a Master of Arts in Ministry from Moody Theological Seminary in Chicago (1998), and a doctorate in Transformational Leadership for the Global City from Bakke Graduate University. He is also the author of Unstuck: Out of Your Cave and Into Your Call (Moody Publishers) and the host of Bold Steps, Bold Steps Weekend, and Bold Steps Minute heard across Moody Radio’s nationwide network of stations.
As Moody’s president and an alumnus, Dr. Jobe believes in the power of a Moody education centered on the teaching of God’s Word. His commitment to Bible-infused higher education is motivating to Moody’s professors and students alike.
Those who have served alongside Dr. Jobe call him a collaborative and relational leader as well as a gifted teacher and preacher. Most of all, Dr. Jobe is deeply committed to the gospel message. Moody’s vision statement, “The Gospel Available for Every Person,” reflects Dr. Jobe’s zeal for training students and encouraging leadership, staff, and radio listeners to share and live the gospel so that people throughout the world can know Christ personally.
One of Dr. Jobe’s first decisions as president was guiding Moody’s leadership to implement Vision 2030. This bold, ambitious plan asks God to grant the organization a double portion of kingdom impact between 2020 and 2030. This level of impact includes doubling the number of listeners to Moody Radio’s stations and digital offerings as well as the Christ-centered resources delivered through Moody Publishers, the total Moody alumni devoted to a life of service to God, and the number of Christian leaders influencing the world with the gospel.
Comments from Moody Leadership
“I’m glad our president is first a pastor. A servant before a leader. Pastor Mark has D. L. Moody spunk and the zeal-full sturdiness of a church planter. He's a real-world biblical shepherd who is humble, teachable, and accountable. With DNA that is gospel entrepreneurialism, I love MBI having him at the helm for this moment.”
—Wes Ward
Vice President, Moody Radio
“Dr. Jobe urges that no matter where a student will eventually get their paycheck, a strong faith that will last their lifetime is one of the essential outcomes of a Moody education. He ensures that Moody isn't just about learning in a classroom; it is about who you become as a Christ follower.”
