Dr. Tim Arens to Retire

Education

Dear Moody Family,

It is with deep sadness, but also profound joy, that I announce the retirement of my friend and colleague affectionally known as Dr. Timothy “Dean” Arens, effective June 30, 2021, as vice president and dean of Student Life and Development. Dr. Arens has served at Moody Bible Institute since 1984, through 37 academic years, 34 of which have been as a chief student development officer.

I have known Dr. Arens since we first met in 1986, when I helped to oversee the evening school ministry for the Moody Bible Institute at our main Chicago campus and six other extension campuses throughout the Midwest.

In all of those years, I can say without a hesitation that “Dean” has not only been a blessing to me, but also to the entire Institute, especially the students.

Dr. Heather Shalley, vice president and dean of Student and Enrollment Services, has been asked by me to serve as the chair of a search committee, not to replace Dean Arens (as that would be impossible), but for his replacement.

We will be conducting a nationwide search for his position and would deeply appreciate your prayers for this search and for his replacement. It is our hope to have presented an acceptable candidate to the Board of Trustees of the Moody Bible Institute by May 1, 2021, as we would desire for a two-month transition of responsibilities between the new vice president and dean of Student Life and Development and Dr. Arens.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Humbly,
