New Vice President and Dean of Moody Bible Institute Named
Dr. James Spencer to serve as vice president and dean of Moody’s undergraduate school
Dr. James Spencer has been appointed vice president and dean of Moody Bible Institute, effective July 1, 2016. In his new position he will oversee Moody's undergraduate school which has campuses in Chicago and Spokane.
"We must remain on the cutting edge while staying true to biblical principles so that more young men and women are equipped to face the challenges of the 21st century in their service to Christ around the world," said Dr. Junias Venugopal, provost and dean of Education at Moody. "I have the utmost confidence in James that he will lead Moody's undergraduate school with the same competency and excellence in which he has already with Moody Bible Institute Distance Learning (MBIDL)."
Since 2012, Spencer has served as the vice president and dean of MBIDL. Previously, he served as Moody's assistant dean of online and non-traditional education, and was a member of the strategic planning committee for education.
In his new role Spencer will serve on the provost's cabinet and be responsible for curriculum offered through the undergraduate school, as well as for the recruitment of faculty and directors for each academic program. He will also work closely with support departments such as the library, academic records, financial aid and others who serve the student body.
"His innovative, strategic thinking will be of particular value as he works with admissions on recruiting students as well as with Moody Theological Seminary in ensuring students transition smoothly to master's level training," added Venugopal.
"It is a great responsibility, privilege and joy to be moving into this new role, and I look forward to leading and serving the faculty and students involved in Moody's undergraduate programs in Chicago and Spokane," said Spencer. "The students in these programs represent the next generation of Christian leaders and it's my prayer that we will continue to educate them to think biblically, live Christianly and serve the church effectively."
Spencer completed Harvard Graduate School of Education's Institute for Education Management in 2014. He also earned a Ph.D. in Theological Studies with an Old Testament Emphasis from Trinity International University in 2012, an M.A. in Biblical Exegesis from Wheaton in 2005, and a M.Div. from Moody Theological Seminary in 2004.
He and his wife, Kim, have been married for 16 years and live in Chicago's Wrigleyville neighborhood with their son and identical twin daughters. They attend Park Community Church's Near North campus in Chicago.
In addition to being involved with his local church, Spencer serves as the chairman of Chicagoland's Fellowship of Christian Athletes Leadership Board. He is also a member of the Association of Biblical Higher Education's Commission on Accreditation, and is an associate consultant with Ruffalo Noel-Levitz.
