Chief Information Officer Named

After 23 years of leading Moody Bible Institute’s Information Technology Services (ITS) department, Frank Leber will be retiring, effective Sept. 30, 2019. Succeeding Leber will be current director of enterprise applications in ITS, John Sauceda, who has been promoted to chief information officer, effective Sept. 1, 2019.

“Frank has provided invaluable leadership at Moody, helping us successfully secure, implement and harness the technology and resources needed over the years to help bring us to the place we are in our mission today,” said Mark Wagner, senior vice president and chief operating officer for Moody. “We will greatly miss his leadership, presence and heart for the Lord and Moody.”

Leber, who is a 1976 alum of Moody Bible Institute, first came to ITS in 1978 as a programmer and served in a number of roles before being promoted to vice president in January of 1996. During his tenure, Leber led the migration of Moody’s systems from an outdated IBM mainframe to a new centralized administrative software. Under his leadership, Moody also implemented Oracle e-business suite, Campus Solutions and HCM to serve Moody’s administrative, donor relationship management, and analytic needs. In addition, Leber established the strategy for Moody to move organizational software applications to a Cloud-based format which ITS will continue to implement under Sauceda’s leadership.

“It has been a great joy to serve at Moody with a stellar staff dedicated to the Lord and serving others, and I look back with fondness on more than 40 years at an organization I love,” said Leber. “John will lead well and strongly support Moody’s various teams in their technology needs so they can continue to carry out the incredible, 132-year-old mission of Moody in today’s digital culture.”

Sauceda is an alum of Moody Bible Institute (1977), and has served in ITS for more than 15 years, working his way from special projects manager to his current role where he oversees enterprise level applications. Previous to Moody, he concluded an 18-year tenure at an information technology processing service provider to the real estate marketplace as their vice president of operations. He oversaw their automation tools, customer service, sales, and data center. Sauceda has also held leadership positions at several other organizations in the area of digital consulting and software services as well as Internet security.

“John is a strong leader, an excellent communicator and team builder, and brings with him a strategic mindset and proven ability to innovate and successfully leverage IT,” added Wagner. “He has worked hand-in-hand with Frank for many years, and is well respected and trusted around Moody so I am fully confident that the transition will go smooth and that he will help our education, radio and publishing ministries succeed.”

In his current role, Sauceda has developed enterprise-level solutions, strategies and platforms for Moody’s various internal teams. He has retooled business processes related to Moody’s websites, implemented customer resource management software for education, and automated processes for Moody’s Donor Resource team. In addition, he has led ITS in the implementation of a student mobile app and online student payment processing.

“I’m excited to lead Moody’s technology efforts,” said Sauceda, who is from Huntington Beach, Calif. “As ITS continues to explore new ways to produce high quality and innovative work, I look forward to bringing my leadership and collaboration skills as we strategically work across Moody. My desire is to provide the tools necessary that allows the Moody community to be effective in their work to accomplish the mission to equip people with the truth of God’s Word.”

In addition to his Bible/theology diploma from MBI, Sauceda earned a B.S. in Business Administrations from California State University and an M.B.A. from San Jose State University.

He and his wife, Connie, have been married for 40 years, and have two grown children. They live in Carol Stream, Ill., where they are active members of The Compass Church.  Sauceda serves as an elder and Adult Bible Fellowship teacher.
