March 13 Moody Community COVID-19 Update
Dear Moody Students, Faculty, and Staff:
These are intense days with many challenges and enormous opportunities. I am glad to be living and prepared for “Such a time as this”. The leadership at Moody Bible Institute is choosing to address this health care crisis with a spirit of faith, courage, compassion, and hope. At the same time, we want to be wise and keep the health and well-being of our students and staff as a top priority in light of the COVID-19 crisis.
After much dialogue and prayerful consideration, we have decided in the interest of the health and safety of our community to take immediate steps to encourage social distancing on our campuses. These steps will impact the way we operate as a school for the remainder of the Spring semester. We want to emphasize there are currently no reported cases of COVID-19 on any Moody campus.
Our educational leadership is taking critical steps to maintain our commitment to student success and academic progress. But to ensure social distancing and to help keep everyone safe and healthy during this outbreak, Chicago campus-based classes will be delivered online using our Canvas LMS for the remainder of Spring term. At this time, Moody's three campuses in Chicago, Michigan, and Spokane remain open with reduced services.
- Educational offices and departments will remain open to faculty and staff, and other operations are expected to continue.
- Chicago campus students will be expected to move out of their residence hall, with limited exceptions. Student Development will communicate directly with Chicago campus students regarding move-out procedures and residential details.
- Moody is evaluating status of future Study Abroad trips to ensure health and safety of participants.
- Our Michigan campus as well as Moody Aviation in Spokane will continue to operate in a modified fashion.
For our team members within Moody Radio, Moody Publishers, and other administrative teams, our Coronavirus Task Force is working closely with leadership to address workplace continuity given the fluidity of the COVID-19 outbreak. Further guidance will be provided in the next few days. Until then, employees are encouraged to follow the already communicated protocols such as hand-washing, social distancing, and staying home if ill.
As we begin implementing these new measures, more information will be shared via email, the Moody Weekly, as well as a new Coronavirus Update web page, which will be updated with news, FAQs, and resources. We appreciate your patience as this situation unfolds. Please check all three of these resources regularly for information and updates.
I understand this will cause great disruption to everyone including students, faculty, and staff—especially for students who are seniors, but we are seeking to follow the recommendations of health officials on how to limit the spread of COVID–19.
In these moments of uncertainty when fear can easily grip our heart, we hold firm to the words in Deuteronomy 7:9 which says, “The Lord our God is God; He is the faithful God…”. I am also reminded of the words in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind”.
We will continue to exercise wisdom and discernment, but we will also reject fear and panic as we look to opportunities to minister the hope of Jesus to a hurting and anxious world.
Let’s remember King Jesus is in control and COVID-19 has not caught him off guard. Thank you for your commitment to pray for us and the Moody family.
