2017 Robert Neff Award

Dr. Erwin Lutzer receives annual award honoring former vice president of Moody Radio, Bob Neff

Pastor, author and Moody Radio host Dr. Erwin Lutzer is the recipient of the 2017 Robert Neff Award.

Celebrating 12 years, Moody Radio’s annual Robert Neff Award honors the legacy of Bob Neff, former vice president of Moody Radio. The award recognizes an outstanding religious broadcaster for “distinguished spiritual excellence in religious broadcasting” and is sponsored by the Christian Law Association. In April 2006, at the age of 64, Neff died after a three-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative illness often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

“Moody Radio’s partnership with Pastor Lutzer spans almost 40 years and we are grateful to the Lord for the immeasurable impact his ministry has had on radio listeners,” said Collin Lambert, vice president of Moody Radio. “He is committed to the Lord, faithful to proclaiming Scripture, and desires to see others grow in the grace and knowledge of God. His life honors the legacy of Bob Neff and his radio ministry continues to be crucial in our mission to help Moody Radio listeners take the next step in their walk with Jesus Christ.”

A reception in Dr. Lutzer’s honor was held by Moody Radio during the National Religious Broadcasters convention in Orland, Fla., on Wednesday, March 1.

“I receive this award as a tribute to Bob,” said Dr. Lutzer, “but most of all for the glory of God, who has given me the privilege of sharing His Word with so many through our partnership with Moody Radio.”

He added, “Receiving the Robert Neff Award is deeply appreciated, but it is also a humbling experience. When Bob Neff encouraged me to launch Running to Win, he also helped me understand the many challenges of a daily program. His humility and vision for what radio could accomplish, and his subsequent ability to suffer well, still inspire me today.”

Radio Ministry

Dr. Lutzer hosts three nationally-syndicated radio broadcasts: Songs in the Night, Running to Win and Moody Church Hour. These programs are broadcast across the United States as well as internationally, including Moody Radio.

  • Songs in the Night: Weekly Moody Church production led by Dr. Lutzer combines favorite hymns and gospel songs with scriptural meditations of encouragement and instruction.
  • Moody Church Hour: A Sunday morning worship service at The Moody Church for those unable to attend a local church.
  • Running to Win: Dr. Lutzer guides listeners through everyday problems, challenging them to evaluate life’s complications through biblical teaching and truth.

Moody Church

In 1980, Dr. Lutzer began his role as senior pastor at Moody Church in Chicago. Under his leadership, the church and its ministries grew significantly, leading to the construction of a new Christian Life Center which complemented the existing 75-year-old church. In 2015, Dr. Lutzer retired as senior pastor, but retained his Pastor Emeritus status. He continues to travel internationally, speaking at churches, conferences and retreats.

He is also author of over 30 books, including Moody Publishers’ Hitler’s Cross, winner of a Gold Medallion award from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association, and the bestselling One Minute After You Die.
