Moody Spring 2021 Commencement Ceremonies
Three students were presented with the 2011 Jerry B. Jenkins Writer Awards on Thursday, Feb. 3, at Moody Bible Institute’s annual Founder’s Week conference. They were honored for their outstanding non-fiction narratives about how social media has shaped them personally, influenced their relationships and/or affected theirs’ or their peers’ communication of the gospel.
First place went to Christopher Wheeler, senior piano performance major, for his essay, "Status Update." Audrianna Joseph, sophomore communications major, won second place for her piece, "Check In, Check Out." Third place was awarded to Kelsey Kasner, sophomore communications major, for her essay, "One Open Window."
The contest was created in 1999 to honor Jerry Jenkins’ legacy at Moody. He has served as an editor with MOODY Magazine, vice president for Moody’s publishing division and writer-at-large for Moody. Jenkins currently serves as the chairman of the board of trustees.
“God has blessed many of our students with the ability to use language as an edifying and educational communications tool,” said Karyn Hecht, advising faculty member for the contest and interim chair of the communications department. “This year we had 40 entrants, and the top three, whom we honored today, were chosen for their abilities to vividly capture their experiences through the written word.”"One Open Window" by Kelsey Kasner
