Dr. Paul Nyquist Examines Biblical Justice in New Book

Latest book by Moody Global Ministries’ president released this month by Moody Publishers

Moody Publishers recently released Is Justice Possible?, the latest book by Dr. Paul Nyquist, president of Moody Bible Institute.

Is Justice Possible? - Book Cover

“Each of us yearns for justice personally and in society,” Dr. Nyquist writes in Is Justice Possible? “The injustice we see around us leaves us confused, hurt, and angry. But the question remains, is justice even possible?”

The book gives examples of modern-day injustice such as statistics of black versus white crime punishments and unethical laws being passed that bring believers to despair.

In his new book, Dr. Nyquist helps the reader understand and respond to justice and injustice. He defines justice biblically, stressing how God must be the starting point.

“To gain a right understanding of justice, we must explore the relationship between three of His attributes—holiness, righteousness, and justice,” says Dr. Nyquist in the book.

Using a biblical definition, Nyquist deals with our role in justice and why it is so difficult to attain. Through several stories, he reveals the shortcomings in the justice system in America. The book later addresses each person’s part in justice, such as prayer and serving as an advocate for those who have experienced injustice.

While justice can be elusive, Is Justice Possible? offers hope for the future. “One day His Son is going to return to this scarred planet in all His power and glory. When He does, He’ll establish His prophesied kingdom and rule from His throne in Jerusalem.” Justice will become a reality.

“This book is incredibly timely,” said Paul Santhouse, vice president of Moody Publishers. “Dr. Nyquist addresses the toughest questions facing today’s believers. What does biblical justice look like, and how can we practice and advocate for it? The sections, ‘Doing Justice in the Political Arena’ and ‘Doing Justice in the Public Arena’ are particularly relevant in helping us engage culture as followers of Jesus Christ.”

Dr. Nyquist writes, “Justice will often remain elusive for us in this fallen world. But as representatives of God, we can’t quit. We can’t ever give up the pursuit of justice, even if our results are imperfect.”

Dr. Nyquist has also written The Post-Church Christian, Prepare, and A Guide to the Themes from Prepare (all Moody Publishers).
