Moody Bible Institute announced today that during the most recent meeting of the full Board of Trustees, Dr. Mike Fabarez was elected as its newest member.

A Moody Bible Institute alum (1988), Dr. Fabarez is the founding pastor of Compass Bible Church in Aliso Viejo, Calif., where he has served for almost 15 years. Compass Bible Church is a thriving, 3,000-member congregation based in South Orange County, with five other locations.

“I am grateful to the Lord for Dr. Fabarez’s desire to serve the Lord as a trustee for Moody,” said Randy Fairfax, chair of the Board of Trustees. “He brings with him a love for, and intimate knowledge of, Moody’s history and mission, as well as theological expertise, a pastoral heart and deep commitment to the Word of God. This is a significant time in our 132-year history as we look to build on and expand our education and media ministry and Dr. Fabarez’s biblical wisdom and experience in higher education and media will serve us extremely well.”

His daily teaching program Focal Point is heard on hundreds of radio stations across the country, including Moody Radio. He has also authored several books, including Moody PublishersRaising Men Not Boys. In addition to his media partnership with Moody, Dr. Fabarez has served as a conference speaker for Moody’s Walk Worthy men’s conference and Founder’s Week.

On Friday, Feb. 8, during Moody Bible Institute’s annual Founder’s Week conference, Dr. Mike Fabarez shared five observations from 2 Timothy 4:1-5 under the conference theme, “The Inspired Word.”

“It is a particular honor for me to serve the Institute as a trustee, as I reflect on the way God used my education at Moody to spur me on to a life of ministry and service to Christ,” said Dr. Fabarez, who also serves as an adjunct professor in homiletics and New Testament at a Christian university near his church. “I am so grateful that Moody Bible Institute has been used of God in such significant ways for over 130 years, preparing men and women to effectively serve the Lord in ministry posts around the world. I have been praying regularly for Dr. Mark Jobe as he assumes the presidency of Moody, and I hope to be helpful in providing biblical input and practical support for the months and years ahead.”

In addition to his B.A. in Biblical Theology from Moody Bible Institute (1988), he earned a M.A. from Talbot School of Theology, and a D.Min. from Westminster Theological Seminary.

He and his wife, Carlynn, reside in Laguna Hills, Calif. and have two grown sons and one teenage daughter.
